I have a total of 45 years of experience as a fully qualified Psychiatrist and Child psychiatrist, out of which 14 years were in Public Psychiatry in New York State, encompassing the city, county, and state facilities. In addition, I worked several years in private, academic, and non-academic inpatient, outpatient, day treatment, consultation-liaison, Emergency Room, and Assisted Outpatient Treatment for children, adults, and the elderly in the United States, Canada, and India.

I have American Board Certification in Psychiatry since 1980 and in Child Psychiatry since 1986 as well as Canadian Board Certification in Psychiatry since 1973.

I was awarded the Nassau University Medical Center’s Dr. Julius Marcus Award for Excellence in Teaching in Psychiatry for the year 2007, and I have authored a few books, and several articles in Psychiatry in professional Journals. My writings on Bipolar Disorder in children span the past thirty years.

I am a board certified Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner. I received my Bachelor’s of Arts in Psychology from the State University of New York at Buffalo and my Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing and Masters of Science in Nursing from Molloy College. After graduating from nursing school, I worked in the emergency department at Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip.

While working in the emergency department, I saw that people’s physical needs were being met, but their psychiatric needs were not. This lit my passion to continue my education and pursue a psychiatric mental-health nurse practitioner certificate from Molloy College so that I could develop and implement patient-specific treatment plans that integrate medicine and mental health for the most complete and effective treatment.

Before joining Nassau Psychiatric Services, P.C., I worked at one of the largest mental illness and chemical abuse (MICA) homeless shelters in Brooklyn. At the same time, I was part of an assertive community treatment (ACT) team providing care to those with significant functional impairment as well as serious and persistent mental illness or personality disorders, who have avoided or have not responded well to traditional outpatient mental health care and psychiatric rehabilitation services. My education, training, and professional experiences have prepared me to provide each patient with the utmost individualized care. I continue to have enthusiasm for learning, particularly cutting-edge science as well as knowledge involving the brain and body.

I am a board certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Wagner College and a Master of Science in Nursing from Hunter College. I am experienced in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I), psychotropic medication management as well as inpatient, outpatient and dual diagnosis psychiatric nursing. I have worked as a Staff Nurse at the Veteran’s Affairs (VA) New York Harbor Healthcare System Manhattan Campus, responding to mental and behavioral health crises at the inpatient psychiatric unit. Additionally, I have provided medication management and PTSD treatment at the VA Brooklyn Campus. I am dedicated to delivering top-quality mental health services to all of my patients.

I am a New York State Licensed Clinical Psychologist since 1998. I have experience with adults, adolescents, children, families, and geriatrics. I treat a broad range of issues that include depression, anxiety, adjustment disorders, behavior disorders, ADHD, relationship issues, issues of self-esteem, trauma, and PTSD, sleep difficulties, adjustment to retirement, loss, and bereavement, and caregiver stress. I have worked with people affected by abuse and neglect, neurological disorders, obesity, and weight-related health issues, chronic pain, and stress-related health problems.

In therapy, I tailor treatment to the specific needs of each individual or family. I use cognitive-behavioral techniques, relaxation (breathing, muscle, and imagery), exposure therapy, behavior-management plans, mindfulness, and rational-emotive therapy.

When therapy is a safe place without judgment, and the treatment approach is personalized and supportive, people can enrich their lives with healthier attitudes and behaviors that empower them to create meaningful lifelong change.

I am a Licensed Clinical Psychologist who is a new transplant to the beautiful state of Florida. Prior to moving to Florida, I spent the majority of my life in the upper mid-west and northern plains, having practiced in Fargo, ND for 23 years prior to making the life decision to move south to be closer to family. By the time I entered high school I knew that I wanted to work in some capacity helping others, especially those coping with emotional and medical issues. Fortunately, I had a mentor who introduced me to the field of Medical Psychology where I was able to meld my interest of helping those facing medical challenges and the psychological and life changes that often accompanied them.

During my graduate work and early career, I primarily worked with children and adolescents with cancer, and their families, as well as those experiencing other medical disorders that disrupted their ability to function in daily life. I have also had the privilege to work with children, adolescents, adults and families coping with anxiety, depression, grief and loss, separation and divorce, ADHD, stress, and family and parenting issues. I have worked in multiple settings including hospitals, outpatient medical clinics, large health systems and private practice. I feel greatly honored that individuals and families allow me to join with them, and enter into their lives, as they learn new strategies to cope with life challenges and overcome problems.

I believe the therapeutic relationship is foundational to helping people make the changes they need and want to make. Thus, I strive to make therapy a safe place where people can explore and work on themselves, as well as take the risk to change and learn new skills that will improve their lives.

I have particular interest working with those experiencing anxiety, including OCD, habit disorders, depression, adjustment problems, coping with grief/loss and medical illness, parenting and family problems, and coping with stress. I believe it is important to develop a plan of treatment that helps individuals and families meet their goals for change, and create a safe space for that change to take place. In psychotherapy, I believe it is important to employ treatment strategies that are considered to be best practices for the presenting concerns. Depending on the presenting concerns, these strategies may include cognitive behavior therapy, exposure therapy, skills training, relaxation and meditation, and parent training.

I am a board-certified Family Health Nurse Practitioner and have completed additional training as a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner. I received my Bachelor of Arts in Religion from Dickinson College and my Bachelor of Science in Nursing and Master of Science in Nursing from Misericordia University. I completed my Post-Master’s Psychiatric training at Florida State University.

Prior to joining Psych-360, I worked in a variety of settings including private practice, long term care and community health centers. As a Family Nurse Practitioner, I manage acute and chronic illnesses, perform minor surgical procedures, provide women’s healthcare and travel medicine.

Throughout my years of practice, I realized that my patient’s physical healthcare needs were being met, but their mental health was not being addressed. Therefore, I chose to obtain additional training in mental health. I believe that mental health and physical health are entwined, and problems with one will cause difficulty in the other. My goal is to provide integrative care that addresses both the mind and the body.
